Patrick Dubuque, referring to a casually cruel comment made about the oft-injured Darren Dreifort when he retired 20 years ago:

All the times Dreifort went under the knife, spent month after endless month waiting for his arm, or his knee, or his heel, to let him be himself again. Wondering if he ever would be. The man worked hard, and he deserved for his critics to work equally hard.”

Note: I am not referring to anything said or written by anyone in the EFL, or anywhere else. I am just posting, as a needed reminder to myself (and just in case anyone else also needs reminding) that compassion is due even toward those who’ve failed us.

Also as a reminder that Patrick Dubuque is a terrific writer, well worth your time and the cost of a Baseball Prospectus subscription.
