Despite poor offense (55 PA, .192, .236, .269) the Seraphim snatched most of a win back from the Drive on Week 19’s final day, with 8 1/3 scoreless innings from a three-man pitching crew (Cody Bradford, Tylor Holton, Spencer Miles). The Drive didn’t hit much better (52 PA, .186, .308, .326), and only got mediocre pitching (6 ip, 3 er) as Paul Skenes had a disappointing start (5 ip, 3 er).
Cascadia 0.4, MLB (-0.4). Cascadia wins the series. 4.8 – 1.2.
The Glaciers got outstanding work from their offense (52 PA, .298, .353, .532), and even better pitching (10 2/3 ip, 1 er). Bryan Woo led the way — 7 ip, 0 er — and everyone else followed suit (except Gabe Speier, who let an earned run sneak through while getting 2/3 ip). This excellent work nailed down a big series victory over our MLB competitors, bringing the league’s season record to 624.6 – 629.5., .4980.
Flint Hill 0.4, Canberra (-0.4). Canberra wins the series, 5.1 – 0.9.
Freddy Peralta’s last start for the Tornados was a bust: 3 2/3 ip, 7 er. Starting today, Peralta is completely out of the EFL, after being traded to Portland for Mize and Pfaadt, and then sent packing by Portland (who accepted Peralta’s real life trade for minor league, and then ditched the minor leaguers). Quite the comedown for Freddy.
But the Tornados more than compensated for Peralta’s performance by going .290, .389, .516 in 36 plate appearances. That was enough to steal 4/10’s of a win from the red-hot Kangaroos despite solid Canberra pitching (14 1/3 ip, 6 er) and respectable hitting (34 PA, .194, .265, .419).
Peshastin 1.4, Portland (-0.4). Peshastin wins the series, 4.3 – 1.7.
The Rosebuds’ week closed with a crash. Casey Mize’ final start for Portland was a nasty chulk: 3 1/3 ip, 8 er. Griffin Canning joined the chulking, in a smaller way (1 p, 2 er). A scoreless inning from Evan Sisk dragged the team’s total pitching effort came barely back from the chulky precipice: 5 1/3 ip, 10 er. I’m not sure what the batting equivalent of a chulk looks like, but Portland’s 31 PA, .107, .194, .107 batting line might qualify.
That left the door open for a big Peshastin win. Will Warren got through 5 1/3 innings in fair shape (3 er) but two relievers improved the situation a lot by compiling 2 scoreless innings. The Pear offense was not flawless — in 49 PA, they only got 6 hits for a .194 batting average, but 8 free passes and a homer each by Junior Caminero and Julio Rodriguez elevated the OBP and SLG to .359, .419 and sealed the deal on a big win.
DC 0.1, Haviland (-0.1). Haviland wins the series, 5.8 – 0.3.
The Balk, desperately seeking to avoid taking the worst loss in the league, sent four pitchers out to cover 14 innings — but their generosity got the better of them, so they allowed an earned run per inning. The hitters came close to balancing that with their 32 BA, 400, .469, .600 slash line. Haviland hit about the same (20 AB, .333, .400, .611) but only got 2 2/3 innings of pitching (1 er). 1
Cody Bradford’s name appears in Salem’s game report! This is big news for the Seraphim, who’ve been waiting 13 months for him to come off of the injured list. We have a few other pitchers scheduled to reappear this month after long absences: Blake Snell, Michael Soroka, and Conolly Early. Maybe even River Ryan! These guys should help Salem win a few more games. It’s tough to win when you have only three starters who can pitch, and one of them is terrible.
Oops, just learned that Early has managed to reinjure himself. He’ll join Mick Abel, Spencer Arrighetti, Jack Leiter, Ryan Pepiot, and Gavin Stone on the waiting list for the Salem pitching staff in 2027.
