DAVE:

My Luis García didn’t show up on my stats for yesterday. He played, I allocated him.

I’ve just checked. He hasn’t been in any of my stats.

Baseball Reference shows an accent mark over the i. He is listed on our roster without the accent.  I allocated García at 100% Bench in week 1, which I suppose is how I missed the apostrophe catastrophe — I wasn’t looking for any stats from him.

An owner should not be able to benefit from his error.

I just noticed today his absence from my batting stats.

I allocated him 60% at 2b and 40% at OH this week. His 0 for 4 and his suspect defense at 2b will hurt my stats, but we need to include them anyway.  Could you please get him included in my team’s stats for Week 7?

As for the other weeks:

Weeks 2,3: Allocated 100% to Other Hitter. He would have suppressed PA by Austin Riley and Josh Bell.

Since April 6, here are their slash stats

García .286, .339, .429 .768.

Bell: .245, .355, .415 .770

Riley: .242, .321, .375, .696

I don’t know what they were for those two weeks, but in general these guys weren’t hitting much different from each other for the first 5 weeks of the season.

Week 4, 5: Allocated 100% to Other Hitter: would have eliminated 1.1 replacement PA in Week 4 and 0.8 replacement PA in Week 5.

Week 6:  Allocated 25% to 2b, 75% to OH. He would have eliminated 1.6 replacement PAs at 2b, and 3.19 at OH, but would also have depressed team defense some at 2b. In 27 plate appearances, he batted .423, .444, .615. He may never have a week like that again in his entire life.

Sigh.

So far this week he is 0 for 4.

I suspect including García’s stats would have little effect on weeks 2 through 5, but would boost the W’s pretty nicely in Week 6.

However, since

1) it is the owners’ responsibility to catch clerical errors (see the EFL Error Correction system), and

2) I did not catch the error, and

3) the error probably hasn’t benefited me (whereas fixing the error retroactively would likely help me, especially in Week 6),

I am asking you to NOT re-do weeks 2 – 6.

An owner should not be able to benefit from his error.  Even though I did not plan this, and didn’t notice Luis’ omission from my stats until this morning, we do not want a precedent that could allow an owner to wait to point out a clerical error until he benefits from itFinkelstein,”In re Brett: The Sticky Problem of Statutory Construction”, Fordham Law Review (1984), citing Lee MacPhail’s ruling on appeal in Martin v. Brett.

So — please fix Luis García’s apostrophe castastrophe so he can show up in this week’s stats. (Hopefully he isn’t planning to go 0 for 4 for the entire week.) But do not correct any previous weeks’ stats.
